After failing my first fire captain promotion test I was committed to never fail another test and feel that pain again. I spent hours researching the best way to study for a promotion test and looking for study tools to help me pass. Eventually I decided I had to create my own. All the firefighter study software available out there was lacking something that I felt was important to help me pass my promotion test. Since then I have passed and have been promoted to Captain and then Battalion Chief. I was then able to take the time to build an effective study tool for you. FiredUp was created to help firefighters achieve the promotion they are working for while saving them time to spend with their family, enjoying the outdoors, or bettering themselves at the firehouse.
Firefighting has been my entire life. My dad was in the fire service so I grew up in a firehouse. I have been in the fire service since I was 19 years old. I have been with my current department over 20 years and have been blessed with a great career. My wife and three young children make it all worthwhile. One of my favorite things in life is getting home after a shift and being swarmed with hugs from my family.

I’ve been a firefighter for 10 years, serving with three different fire departments, and every experience has shaped me into who I am today. Alongside my fire service career, I’m also a software engineer—a combination that fuels my drive to solve problems both on the fireground and off. Early in my career, I saw how subpar software was holding firefighters back. The tools out there were clunky, outdated, or just plain ineffective, and I couldn’t stand it. I knew I had to do something about it. So, I set out to help build a solution—one that would actually work and make a difference for every firefighter, no matter their rank or department. My goal? To help firefighters sharpen their skills, pass their promotion tests, and climb the ranks, all while saving them time and frustration.
